I was searching for a CNC controller board that was compatible with grblHAL for a MACH3 conversion that I was going to do. I bought a used OMIO X8 CNC that came with the MACH3 software and controller. I had used grbl on my other machines in the past and just couldn't get used to MACH3. Long story short, I found the Scylla board adverstised on the web somewhere and decided to give it a shot. There was already a port of grblHAL to the board on the web so it most of the hard work was already completed. I think it was about 6 months ago that I did the conversion and it's been running without any issues since. I am using the Sienci Labs gSender software for my gcode sender. For anyone interested I put a few videos of my conversion on YouTube. I've been late on uploading a video showing how to flash grblHAL onto the board and how to edit the grblHAL firmware if you need it. I would highly recommend this board for anyone building a custom machine or looking to upgrade an older machine.
I purchased this motherboard to replace my Mellow CDY V3 since memory is an issue with that board. Love that most connections to the Scylla is terminated on terminal screws with only a few crimp connections. The Scylla arrived quickly via Fedex at an additional cost since Canada Post was on strike. I had an issue configuring the end-stops assigned PIN numbers in the pin out diagram need to be corrected. Connection to my Huanyang VFD for the spindle was made easy but please note that the VFD needs to be configured for operation through firmware. My spindle is water cooled a thermistor circuit for monitoring the water temperature would have been a nice additional feature. Attached are a photo of the correct end-stop pins assignment and the VFD connections and jumper setting for the Huanyang VFD.
